Here are some of the most important tips you need to keep in mind as you embark on that project.

Get the Project Details Right:

Before kick starting a project, make sure you have gotten the approval of every single stake holder. Have a good understanding of what interest they have in the project and how much they have to say in the success and failure of the project.

You also have to be very clear about the project scope, and the roles each project team member including what they are responsible for. Another important thing you should do is to establish criteria for success that is trackable to ensure that tasks are completed on schedule and on budget.

Also ensure that product to be used are functioning well, and industry as well as government regulations are being carefully followed. Take care of all the details first before you begin work, else your project’s success could be jeopardized.

Identify Team and Project Requirements:

Once you have come up with a good plan, the next important step is to assemble a very good team for the project. The project team is like of individuals with different skills, talents and capabilities, but when they come together each individual uses their uniqueness to complement the other and get the job done.

The first step to achieving success for any team is organization. How well the available resources are organized as a whole through the integration of the different skills of the project team members, would determine if this project is going to be a successful or not. Make what every individual is expected to deliver and when they can deliver them as clear as possible to them before the project starts.

 Lead The Project:

The project leader is one of the most important roles in any project. As the project leader, you would need to work on bringing in good positive vibes around the team and also act as mentor/coach to the team members individually. In  this role it would be easier to stop which member of the team is struggling with their task and which person could delay the job.

You are essentially the captain of the ship in the project, so you cannot afford to be clueless in any way. Even if you don’t know what to do, you have to be able to your team to follow you through the turbulence’s that may arise during the project’s duration.

Define Critical Milestones:

As the project leader, you are expected to define the defining moments in the project life cycle. You can use the four main phases of a project (Initiation, planning, execution and closure) to provide a life cycle for the project.

At the end of each phase of the project, perform a solid evaluation to make sure every delivery was delivered on specification. The products have to be aligned with the quality that your client is expecting. Evaluating these milestones would help you ensure that each part of the project is correctly completed.

Keep an Open Communication Line:

The success and failure of your project could depend on how much communication flows to and through you as the leader. When individual project team members cannot reach you freely, openly and honestly, there would be several issues that would not be attended to as at when due.

Throughout the project, ensure there is an open, honest and clear line of communication among team members. Everyone should have all the information they need to complete their tasks at all times and keep in touch with each team member personally just in case they need your help.
